Community Nurses

They offer skills in wound care, continence management, cancer support, health promotion and care of chronic medical conditions. They receive referrals from numerous sources including hospitals, GP’s, social services, patients and carers and coordinate care with social services and other agencies.

Health Visitors

The health visitor, can give you advice on all aspects of parenting, children’s behaviour and staying well, particularly in children, women and the elderly. They run the child health clinics at Bentham or Ingleton Surgery, and they help with the antenatal classes. Every child less than 5 years old has their own health visitor. They are also school nurses for the local primary and middle schools, and to Settle High School. You can see your health visitor by appointment at Bentham or Ingleton Surgery, or they will visit you in your home.

Health Visitors are based at Settle Health Centre on 017298 23880

Podiatrists

The podiatrists see patients with foot problems at Bentham and Ingleton Surgery and are able to treat children below the age of 16 and patients over the age of 65. They see patients who are referred for treatment by their doctor.

Counsellors

We have a counselling service to help people at difficult and upsetting times in their lives. Ask your GP for a referral or you can self refer on 0300 5555551.

Community Mental Health Teams

Members of the teams, particularly the community psychiatric nurses and occupational therapists based at Skipton will see patients at Bentham Surgery or at home. They can help with all types of mental illness. They work closely with the practice and with the Department of Psychiatry at Airedale General Hospital. A consultant psychiatrist, Dr Jane Clarke holds a monthly clinic at the surgery.
